Website Highlights

1. The alcohol screening site was my first hit! I took the screening test. It reminded me of the AUDIT (Alcohol Use Disorders Identification Test) we use in the student health center. Though I found no dates, this site was easy to maneuver, offered great links to learn more, and provided ways to feedback. I gave it two stars because you can add it's graphics to your website!!
2. The Center for Science in the Public Interest site gave lots of references, and zeroed in on the college crowd. It was dated December 2008, making it timely.
3. The CDC website was, as expected, timely. It included dates for page last reviewed, and page last modified. It gave content source and contact information. It had a great reference list, and Q & A. The interventions were noteworthy, though no mention of drinking age (more later!).
4. The video website was interesting, in a first person kind of way! Obviously, it was very visual!!
5. The National Treatment Center site had 24/7 immediate call back, and toll free number. It included lots of other addictions (WOW factor!). There was also blog ability. A major turnoff for me was the same You Tube over and over!
6. The FACE site had product type (posters, bookmarks, banners, etc.) and product line (common sense, domino strategy, life at it's best). Interesting look at issues. Good resources!
7. The above the influence site was COOL!!! Very artsy and interactive! I got lost!!
8. Wikipedia was wikipedia. I like it!
9. The Teens Health website was reviewed by Steven Dowshen, MD in August 2006. Interesting brain images and resources.
10. The Alcohol Problems & Solutions site was chock full, and I gave it one big star! It had a George Washington quiz, and a bar exam!!
11. The amethyst initiative has my "boss" (university president) as a member. It is definitely "food for thought."

First Impressions

As a digital immigrant, I was overwhelmed by the amount of information I found on my topic of binge drinking. I am somewhat familiar with this topic. I work weekend nights in a university student health center. I also wrote a paper on it last semester.
Being fairly new to "googling," I found that I was easily drawn into each website--clicking away, and loosing track of time! I'm amazed at the variety of designs, and how the same material can be presented differently. There were lots of interactions!
